OFFICIALLY B CORP CERTIFIED🎉

We’ve got some big news: We’re now a Certified B Corporation! That little B badge? It’s a big deal. And here’s why.

What’s a B Corp?

Think of it as the gold standard for businesses that actually walk the talk. Certified B Corporations are companies that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. It’s not just about profit, it’s about purpose and sustainability.

The B Corp certification, awarded by the nonprofit B Lab, is only given to companies that balance people, planet, and profit.

Why It Matters to Us.

From day one, we’ve been about more than just good drinks, we’re about doing good while making them. Getting B Corp certified means our efforts to make a positive impact (on our community, our team, and the planet) aren’t just promises, they’re proven.

  • This certification holds us accountable. It means:
  • We’re reducing our environmental footprint.
  • We’re building an inclusive, supportive workplace.
  • We’re putting community and sustainability at the heart of every decision.

What’s Next?

B Corp isn’t a finish line, it’s a commitment to keep pushing. We’re now part of a global movement of businesses using their power to build a more sustainable and equitable future.

So next time you crack open one of our drinks, know that it’s made by a team that cares, not just about flavour, but about the future.

Introducing 5.8 Gin & Tonic – Kenya’s First Locally-Sourced RTD

We’re Excited to Launch Kenya’s First Locally-Sourced Gin & Tonic – Now Available in Kenya and Heading to the UK!

Nairobi, Kenya and London, United Kingdom – 29 April 2025:
At African Originals, we’re proud to announce the launch of our 5.8 Gin & Tonic — the first ready-to-drink (RTD) gin and tonic made using 100% locally sourced Kenyan ingredients.

This launch is a major milestone for us. It’s not just for our amazing Kenyan consumers — we’re also taking the 5.8 Gin & Tonic to London, sharing a true taste of Kenya with new audiences around the world.

RTDs have been the fastest-growing category in the global drinks industry, and Africa is leading the charge with growth rates over 10% year-on-year. Young, urban consumers are looking for drinks that are lighter, more flavourful, and rooted in authenticity — and that’s exactly what we’re delivering.

We’re launching three bold and refreshing flavours:

  • Classic – made with baobab from Kilifi, on Kenya’s coast

  • Very Berry – crafted with blueberries from Tigoni, just outside Nairobi

  • Spiced Orange – a lively blend of oranges and chilis sourced from across the country

Each can is a celebration of Kenyan produce, with ingredients grown by local farmers and botanicals harvested in partnership with the Maasai community. It’s a true reflection of what makes African Originals stand out — a deep-rooted connection to people and place.

Founder and CEO Alex Chappatte explains:
“We’re proud to be launching a product that reflects the soul of Kenya while speaking to a global audience. We believe our 5.8 Gin & Tonic will connect with Kenyan consumers looking for something local, fresh, and fun — and with international drinkers who want to experience the best of African craft in a can.”
